Fit on the Farm

Obesity can shorten your dog’s life and impact their quality of life as well.

According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP), 55.8% of dogs were classified as overweight or obese in a 2018 survey.

Some life-affecting conditions that can occur as a result to excess weight are:

· Respiratory compromise (breathing difficulty)

· Hypertension (high blood pressure)

· Diabetes or insulin resistance

· Liver disease or dysfunction

· Osteoarthritis (lameness)

· Lowered immune system function

· Increased risk of developing malignant tumors (cancer)

How can Fit on the Farm Help?

Through our Fit on the Farm program, we can help you and your dog develop better habits, get used to a new routine, and help your dog find a love of life again without the extra weight holding them back.

It is a lot easier for us to be immune to those “sad puppy eyes”!

Packages

We view each dog as an individual.  After receiving a veterinary screening (blood, urine, body condition score, etc.), we will meet with you to discuss program options.  Depending on the amount of weight your dog needs to lose and the owner's confidence in their ability to continue the program from home, we will recommend an appropriate program.Programs will include appropriately portioned and lower calorie meals with higher protein and fiber to help your dog feel more full longer, a progressive increase in exercise, weekly parent check ins, and more!

Programs are scheduled in 2, 4, 6 and 8 week packages and can either be used as a daily program or overnight program.

In coordination with Kingsbrook Animal Hospital and Snorkel's Way Adaptive Dog Training.
